Volumizing Fillers
Volumizing fillers are used to plump areas such as deep wrinkles or facial depressions. Dr. Airan offers several different filler products for facial volumizing at her Manhattan practice serving New York City.
- Radiesse® is the ideal choice for people with very deep smile lines or for facial contouring. This filler is a thick gel composed of bonelike particles called calcium hydroxylapatite. The results last approximately one year.
- Sculptra® is especially great for people with generalized facial hollowness or fat loss because this filler works by stimulating the body's own collagen production. Within several weeks of injection, a natural, soft increase in dermal thickness begins to take shape and continues to expand for several weeks. Sculptra is a material made from a polymer called poly-L-lactic acid that is reconstituted with water before it is injected.
- Artefill® is the first and only FDA-approved permanent injectable filler. Artefill contains 20% microscopic spheres made out of an acrylic called polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA, the same material used for dozens of medical implants over the last 50 years, and 80% bovine collagen gel so a skin test is required. The way Artefill works is that it first visibly corrects the wrinkle. Then the microspheres provide the permanent support your skin needs to correct the wrinkle and prevent further wrinkling. More than one treatment may be needed for full correction.
